MASH: TOUR OF CALIFORNIA
At the height of MASH’s global popularity for having put urban fixed gear riding on the map, the shared with me their desire to send riders to do every single stage of the 2009 Tour of California on the same day as the professional peloton. The only difference, their riders would be on track bikes. One gear, no brakes. While uncertain if they could pull it off, Clif Bar became a primary sponsor of their endeavor and took lead on global communications.
We hosted both the MASH and Garmin-Slipstream teams in an exclusive media event at the Clif Bar Headquarters where an open Q&A was met with much disbelief for what the MASH team was taking on. They became the most talked about news each more before each stage and ended up completing the route in its entirety, silencing the naysayers once and for all.
